March 2023 Newsletter & Updates

Happy Spring! At The 180 Center we rejoice in a new season ahead of us, hoping and praying for God’s promises to be fulfilled.

On March 18, 2023, we celebrated another graduation from The 180 Discipleship Program. Jimmy Simon completed eighteen months of training and it was wonderful to see the attendance and support of so many in his family. Brandon Rhynders, a former 180 Center graduate, shared an encouraging word. A special highlight was seeing Jimmy’s twelve year old son give him a hug. God is not only restoring individuals; He’s restoring families.

Since our last newsletter we have had so many opportunities to witness those experiencing homelessness! Our Warming Center has provided an open door for the men in our program and others to share their testimonies and intercede for individuals who respond to an invitation for prayer. We are so grateful for this opportunity; we believe it comes as a result of those who committed in November to pray for the Warming Center. All of New Haven’s Warming Centers will close on April 17, 2023 as the weather becomes nicer. Please pray for unhoused individuals to find the shelter that they need.

Speaking of shelters…did you know our building has received zoning approval for a 16 bed shelter for men? Someday The 180 Center will provide a permanent shelter for men experiencing homelessness. Many thanks to Genesis Church on Long Island and other individuals who helped finish up ALL the framing for our building in January. Isn’t that fantastic? It still amazes us that a church in New York sends a team of men on a Saturday to do such hard work! We appreciate their commitment to support us. We are also grateful for our grads and other individuals here in CT that so generously offer their service to help us. We just hired an electrician to complete the wiring needed for Phase Two. Plus, we were able to install one of the commercial steel exit doors. Please pray for God to raise up other laborers to help us finish the work that needs to be done.

In March, we were so blessed to have Yale’s School of Divinity students visit us as part of a Prayer Tour they arranged throughout New Haven. They listened to us share and then prayed for The 180 Center. It was such a blessing to experience young adults passionately praying for us.

We ask everyone to keep praying for God to do the work for each of the men in our program. We also ask for you to pray that God provides the finances and labor to work on the unfinished part of our new building. Who can tell what God will do when you pray?

Needs For Phase 2:

  • Rear HVAC systems
  • Installation of two commercial steel exit doors
  • Fire sprinkler system
  • Blow-in insulation for ceiling
  • Electrical and plumbing
  • Installation of drainage box in parking lot
