Community Care Day this past spring was a great way to show our love to the New Haven community. Over 200 people came to The 180 Center and received bags to fill with clothes, shoes, and hygiene item. Free haircuts were given to over 50 people, while almost everyone that came enjoyed a delicious barbecue lunch. Men from Gideons International handed out free Bibles and tracts, plus prayed for anyone who requested prayer. God was glorified!
Community Care Day was a day filled with actions because of the many volunteers that showed up. The volunteers came from local churches, plus graduates and current disciples enrolled in The 180 Discipleship Program. It was a day for everyone to show love and truth through service. The most observant comment came from a disciple in the program, “This is God’s love in action. We should do this kind of stuff more often!”
Our next Community Care Day is in the fall. We could never reach our community with God’s love without the prayers, clothing donations, and financial giving of so many who read this newsletter. At the beginning of June, The 180 Center and many other believers from local churches gathered on the New Haven Green and worshiped God! It was a truly special time of honoring God and praying for our city. However, that was only the beginning! After our time on the Green, our team of men went to a school in New Haven and did yard work and cleaned up the grounds. We also prayed for the school and all who work there and attend. It was a precious time to see our disciples interceding for this school.
After our school work, the team gathered at the house of two disabled believers. Their backyard was extremely overgrown, but our team of men from The 180 Center and volunteers from local churches numbered 15! It was truly amazing to see how hard everyone worked on this yard and brought true transformation! Our team was tired, but so fulfilled after the work they did there. It was an opportunity to put their faith into action, lovingly serving this couple through what they DID that day.
Over 900 volunteers from eight churches participated in the annual “I Heart New Haven Day” and served at over 80 sites throughout the city! The 180 Center was truly blessed to be part of it!
