September 2023 Newsletter & Updates

What a summer we experienced at The 180 Center! C.S. Lewis said, “Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes, but when you look back, everything is different.”
One thing that never changes though is the steadfast love of the Lord! We saw His mercies as we experienced the death of a graduate, and we saw His faithfulness through your service and giving.

We started the summer with an awesome barbecue and three water baptisms at Pastor Scott and Lisa Tavolacci’s house. We celebrated with friends from Gateway Christian Fellowship. To our surprise, the wife of one of our graduates asked if she could be baptized that day! We rejoiced as her husband participated in her baptism. Absent from our gathering was our most recent graduate, Jimmy Simon. He couldn’t make the barbecue because he was working a new job at a residential facility for the elderly. We were proud of him for seeking employment after graduation.

Little did we know that only a little over a month later, Jimmy would pass away in his sleep and be home with His Lord and Savior. We were shocked and grieved to lose Jimmy, but honored when his family asked us to host his memorial service.

Change took place in our hearts because of Jimmy’s death. It was a wake up call to us all, reminding us that this world is not our home and reawakening a desire to see more souls receive the greatest gift; salvation is the gift of eternal life with Christ. Be sure to read Jimmy’s testimony below and rejoice with us over his words that reassure us that he is now with Jesus.

Remember how we shared that God provided the finances for us to host 30 people a night in our building as a temporary shelter from 7pm-7am? Well, The 180 Center served as a cooling center all summer with one big change… we had some individuals and churches step up to provide a short devotional message, prayer, and some even provided meals. What a blessing to share the hope in Jesus with the people we are serving! We still have a few nights available, if you or your church group are interested in serving. Please contact The 180 Center for more information at (203)909-9194. We have already been asked to host as a warming center and expect to be approved for the upcoming year.

In August, The 180 Center also brought change to our New Haven community with other churches by participating in I ❤️ New Haven, an outreach organized by Bridges of Hope. We were blessed to serve as a team at a local public school, helping to prepare it for opening day. We painted parking lot lines, moved and painted furniture, and organized classrooms. It was a blessing to work alongside other brothers and sisters in Christ. This was an example to our city of the church working in unity.

A big change happened to our building this summer through your giving. We finished ALL the insulation for the ceiling! Praise God! Now, we are ready to sheetrock and plan to move forward with that in the near future. Of course, our long term goal remains the same….the completion of Phase Two: a men’s 16 bed shelter, with showers, bathrooms, laundry facilities, and a kitchen. Will you pray specifically for God to give us the finances and laborers to complete the building? We are trusting God to provide ALL we need to do this and we believe your agreement in prayer will bring it to pass.

What changes are you facing in your life? We are praying that you will trust God to carry you and believe that He has all you need. Whether you are experiencing loss, difficulty with finances, loneliness, or difficulty with relationships, we are praying that you turn to God and surrender your greatest needs and desires to Him. Know that His Word says, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23
